2024 Brighton Men's Lacrosse Team Rules Acknowledgement

Attendance:

  1. All players are expected to be at every team function (practice, games, events, etc.) punctually.
  2.  Every player may have one unexcused absence from any practice.
  3. The second unexcused absence may result in dismissal from the team.
  4. Three tardies to practice equals one absence. (Please see #’s (2) and (3))
  5. All absences not cleared in advance of practice are considered unexcused.
  6. Absences from practices and games without first notifying the Head Coach of your team are considered unexcused.  (Do not have your team mate communicate your pending absence to the Coach)
  7. Attendance at practice is one of the considerations for playing time. Unexcused or excused, absences from practice will adversely affect a player's playing time.
  8. Absences due to SRA's (Student Related Activities or Field Trips for a class) are always excused, but the coach must be informed with appropriate advance notice.

Eligibility:

  1. All players must be in attendance in school all day to compete in a practice or a game. Note: All excused absences require notification IN ADVANCE of the absence.
  2. All lacrosse players must abide by the Code of Conduct of Brighton High School.
  3. All players are expected to maintain a satisfactory academic performance throughout the season. Online courses must be up to date with passing grades at the time of grade checks.

Behavior Expectations:

  1. Brighton High School players are required to conduct themselves in a respectful manner.  This applies towards teammates, opponents, officials, and spectators.
  2. The Captains are responsible for setting up the field every day and taking the field down and properly storing  school property.  The coaches believe that cheerful service mentored by our oldest players is a great example for our underclassman to see in action. Our Captains will lead the way on this initiative.
  3. Swearing is not permitted.  Continued violation of this rule is grounds for dismissal.
  4. The only person that will communicate with the referees, in any way, is the Head Coach.  All others, players, will focus on the game and their play.
  5. It is our intent to follow the Code of Conduct for BHS in all matters involving the use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.  The use of devices to 'vape' both nicotine and THC oil has become epidemic.  Any player caught using one of these devices will be disciplined according to the BHS Code of Conduct.  The Code of Conduct determines whether or not you are on the team.  Playing time remains at the discretion of coaches.

Practice/Game Expectations:

  1. All events are mandatory.  Injured players are expected to contribute to the success of the program and be in attendance whenever possible.
    1. If a player is not available to play in a game, they are expected to be in long, khaki colored pants, collared shirt, and tie.  Dress shoes or tennis shoes.  Depending on the injury, players will be asked to help with game day duties.
  2. All players should be equipped properly for every practice- in accordance with MHSAA rules.  (i.e no jewelry, mouthguard required, etc.)
  3. All players must have a reversible, solid dark/light pinney.
  4. Uniforms will be signed in and out at the beginning and end of the season.  Proper care of school property is expected. Failure to maintain the condition of a uniform will come at considerable expense to the person issued the uniform.  Please remember:  uniform replacements may require an entire new set of jerseys as the current jerseys can no longer be ordered. (Please note that MHSAA rules allow for one small stripe of eye black.  Excessive eye black can ruin our jerseys.)

Other Expectations:

  1. The use of any alcohol or drugs, including tobacco, vaping, e-cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, will result in immediate implementation of the BHS Code of Conduct.  In the rare instances of criminal offenses done outside of the school, roster spots will follow the action taken by the school.
  2. Playing time is determined by the coaches.  If anyone would like to speak to the Head Coach about playing time, it must be done by appointment and it must include your student-athlete.  Sub Varsity discussions will include the Varsity Head Coach.  Factors considered are:
  1. Ability to contribute to overall team goals
  2. Practice Attendance
  3. Practice Effort
  4. Practice Attentiveness
  5. Skill and Skill Improvement
  6. Knowledge of game and team tactics/strategies
  7. Respect for rules, officials, opponents, team, and selves.
